Alliance numérique meets the Task Force on Tax Assistance
October 5, 2007 - Alliance numérique today presented its recommendations and arguments to the Task Force on Tax Assistance for the Resource Regions and New Economy.
In her May 2007 Budget Speech, Québec Finance Minister Monique Jérôme Forget announced the creation of the Task Force on Tax Assistance, mandating it to review the fiscal measures aimed at supporting the development of the resource regions and the emergence of the new economy, with a focus on the very principle of tax credits, their impact and their cost.
The measures considered by the review concern a number of designated sites (Cité du multimédia, CNNTQ, CNE, CDTI) and are due to expire between 2009 and 2013. In addition to responding to the questions asked by the Task Force, Alliance numérique emphasized the importance of supporting the development of the ICT industry. Specifically, it insisted on the need for a coordinated strategy of measures (training, tax assistance, financing, buy-local policy, innovation, marketing) designed to promote the development of this sector, which plays a key role in the Québec and world economies.
