Youth Media Alliance’s 2012 French-Language Awards of Excellence: Now Accepting Entries!

Montreal, January 9, 2012 – Youth Media Alliance (YMA) today announced the launch of its 2012 French-language Awards of Excellence. This edition of the awards will honour achievement in TV programming and digital content for young viewers over the past two years.

The competition is open to all Canadian-made youth productions originally broadcast in French within Canada between January 1, 2010, and December 31, 2011. Nominations must be submitted by no later than Friday, February 17, 2012, at 5 p.m.

A total of 11 awards will be handed out, including a grand prize for the most outstanding production to hit the small screen (all platforms) in the past two years, along with awards for emerging talent and lifetime achievement.

This year, award recipients will be selected based on how well they meet four YMA-established criteria: development of intelligence and critical thinking skills; stimulation of imagination and creativity; openness and respect; as well as advancement of personal growth and self-transcendence.

In addition to its awards for best digital production and best convergent project, YMA will be adding a new one, the Parents’ Choice Award, to recognize a digital production intended for preschoolers.  Selected by parents of children in that age group, the recipient will have provided young users with content that either promoted healthy living, or informed them of the importance of education, tolerance, physical fitness, and solidarity. The Kids’ Choice Award will go to a TV production selected by French-speaking youngsters age 9 to 12.

A true celebration of excellence, the awards gala (to be held at Montreal’s Maison de Radio-Canada on May 31, 2012) will further stimulate Canada’s French-speaking youth digital and television production industry.
